About Scott
Photographer. Observer. Collector of Details.
I am a photographer drawn to the details that often go unnoticed: the gesture of a hand, the shape of a face, the intersection of lines, or the small fragments that suggest something larger.
My photographs are rooted in observation. I tend to understand the world by looking closely at its individual parts and considering how those pieces contribute to the whole. That way of seeing has become central to my photography and is especially evident in projects such as Parts and Pieces and Hands.
How I See
Photography gives me a reason to slow down and look more carefully.
I am interested in photographs that reveal rather than simply describe. Sometimes that means isolating a detail from its surroundings. At other times it means concentrating on a gesture, expression, texture, or relationship that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
My work moves between people, the human form, objects, architecture, and the natural world, but the underlying question remains much the same: What can a part tell us about the whole?
The Work
My photography includes both ongoing projects and individual images.
Parts and Pieces explores the idea that we can understand something larger by examining its individual components.
Hands considers hands not simply as subjects, but as one of the primary ways we touch, create, communicate, work, and interact with the world.
Portraits and People approaches portraiture as observation and collaboration, looking beyond appearance toward gesture, personality, and presence.
I work with both digital and film photography and enjoy the very different ways each encourages me to see, photograph, and interpret a subject.
Images By Scott
Images By Scott is where I bring these photographs and projects together.
The work presented here continues to evolve as I photograph, edit, sequence, reconsider, and discover connections between images. I invite you to explore the projects and spend some time with the photographs.
